Professional Experience

Postdoctoral
Research Associate

June 2025 – Present

National Institute for Modeling Biological Systems (NIMBioS) –University of Tennessee, Knoxville TN

  • Curate individual-level data using SQL to calibrate and validate predictive models for the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, contributing to translational tools that inform healthcare providers of community-level opioid overdose risk trends.

  • Effectively communicate complex findings to technical and non-technical audiences, including cross-functional teams and government stakeholders, facilitating informed decision-making.

  • Lead the development of two interdisciplinary manuscripts on novel research in substance use disorder epidemiology and agricultural biocontrol dispersal, aimed at advancing public health and sustainable agriculture.

Ph.D. Candidate & Graduate Research Assistant

June 2022 – May 2025

University of Tennessee, Knoxville TN

  • Design and analyze differential equation models of opioid use disorder dynamics in collaboration with Oak Ridge National Laboratory and the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, informing evidence-based patient treatment strategies for vulnerable populations.

  • Calibrate model parameters using public health data and conduct sensitivity analyses to identify the key drivers sustaining the opioid epidemic.

  • Implement parallelization and use cProfile and SnakeViz to analyze runtime behavior and optimize Python code performance.

  • Develop two-dimensional spatiotemporal simulations of parasitoid wasps—an agricultural biocontrol agent—by integrating real-world wind data to predict their dispersal and impact on target hosts, laying the groundwork for software tools in pest control management.

Graduate Teaching Associate

August 2019 – January 2023

University of Tennessee, Knoxville TN

  • Applied performance data and student feedback to iteratively improve course content and delivery, enhancing clarity, engagement, and learning outcomes.

  • Managed logistics and operations for large undergraduate math courses, coordinating grading workflows, schedules, and instructional materials to ensure timely, efficient execution for 120+ students per semester.

Math-to-Industry Boot Camp Intern

August 2019 – January 2023

Institute for Mathematics
and its Applications, Minneapolis MN

  • Organize and coordinate a team of five PhD students on a project with ITM TwentyFirst, developing a predictive model for COVID-related mortality risk that strengthened the company’s longevity risk assessments.

  • Prepare and integrate large internal insurance datasets with public COVID data using Python (Pandas), ensuring clean, structured inputs for accurate modeling and analysis.
